SLZB-06M
What it is: A network Zigbee 3.0 coordinator from SMLIGHT with a single Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 radio. It connects via Ethernet with PoE, USB-C or Wi-Fi and is controlled by an ESP32 running SLZB-OS.1 Unlike the multi-radio SLZB-MR3, it runs only one protocol at a time.

Features
- Role: Zigbee 3.0 coordinator or router, depending on the firmware flashed via the web UI. Ships pre-flashed for both Zigbee and the ESP32.1
- LAN, USB or Wi-Fi mode is switched in the web UI or with a short button press; there's no mechanical switch.1
- Power: the source (PoE or USB-C) is detected automatically. USB and Ethernet are optically isolated, so both cables can be connected at once.1
- Updates: EFR32MG21 and ESP32 firmware can be updated remotely via the web UI. ESP32 Autoboot allows flashing over USB-C without a programmer.1
- Security: web UI login with a password; an open-source firmware with basic functions is also available.1 Operating recommendations are on the SLZB-MR3 page and apply equally.2
- Thread: the vendor links a Matter-over-Thread guide for the SLZB-06M.1 Synthesis: with one radio, this means Thread firmware instead of Zigbee, not both at once.
- The PoE transformer may whine quietly; according to the vendor that's fine within 50 cm.1
Inconsistencies on the vendor page
The comparison table on the 06M page mentions the CC2652P chip (a different SLZB-06 model) and "SLZB-06" pinouts. The page now points to the successor SLZB-06MU (EFR32MG21).1
SLZB-06M vs. SLZB-MR3
According to the vendor product pages1,3:
| SLZB-06M | SLZB-MR3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Radios | 1× Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 | 2× TI CC2674P10 + Silicon Labs EFR32MG24 |
| Zigbee 3.0 | yes, coordinator or router | yes, coordinator or router |
| Thread | only instead of Zigbee (different firmware) | yes, alongside Zigbee on the second radio |
| TX power | +20 dB | +20 dBm per radio |
| Antennas | 1× external "+5 dB" | 2× SMA, external "+5 dB" |
| Control MCU | ESP32 | ESP32 |
| Ethernet / USB | LAN8720 / CP2102, USB-C | LAN8720 / CP2102, USB-C |
| Wi-Fi | yes | yes |
| PoE | IEEE 802.3af | IEEE 802.3af (48 V) |
| Power consumption | not stated | up to 1.5 W |
| LEDs | 4 | 6 (2 per chip) |
| Dimensions | 160 × 22 × 24 mm | not stated |
| Operating temperature | +5 to +35 °C | not stated |
| Successor on the SMLIGHT site | SLZB-06MU | SLZB-MR3U |
Synthesis: for a pure Zigbee network the 06M is enough. The MR3 pays off when you want Zigbee and Thread from one PoE device.
